Semiconductor and wireless systems startup Ananant Systems is working with major telecom equipment makers to locally develop chips for the proposed rollout of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd’s 5G network, its chief executive said.

The Bengaluru-based company said it is looking to address the expanding requirements for advanced connectivity, computing, and security for wireless 5G and 6G infrastructure and devices. Its offerings include intellectual property (IP), chip design, semiconductor products, software, and systems, all developed and owned in India.

“We have an innovative architecture with a value proposition to reduce cost to one-third and power consumption to one-third compared to the competition, with AI inference ready for advanced 5G and 6G,” Chitranjan Singh said. “So, we’ll provide them chips with the physical layer algorithm and software and they will do the system which will ultimately play out with BSNL.”

Advanced 5G and 6G will be just a software upgrade without the need for change in hardware, he said. We are working on infrastructure,” Singh said. “In our first year, our focus will be base stations for infrastructure. And then at a later point of the first year and second year, we will get into the devices side of things. That’s where our designed chips will go into smart meters for 4G chips or 5G for handsets.”

The company’s alignment with local partners, including its recent membership with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), aims to place India as a leader in the global wireless technology landscape while fostering self-reliance, Singh said.

“As the world transitions to the 5G era of connecting everything and everywhere, the need for robust, secure and indigenous wireless infrastructure becomes crucial,” Singh said. “Our vision encompasses building a leading Indian company in this space, underpinned by an Atmanirbhar philosophy and delivering secure, cost-effective and sustainable solutions.”

It is looking forward to establishing robust partnerships within India to foster an integrated network that supports various facets, from wireless IP development to design to silicon manufacturing to end-system design, integration and manufacturing, the company said.

Singh said the partnership with the IESA was the first step in this direction.
